Grade Level Meeting 9.27.12

Maura Hammond:
We viewed a suicide prevention video.  Fulton County will implement this program at all levels (elementary, middle, high).  Elementary will have  a modified version.

Epipen training:
Everyone must do this.  Please go to the clinic and practice doing the epipen.

Field trip:
Need to choose a new program since the bill/law program is no more.

5th grade coming to our classrooms @ 10am on Oct. 2 to discuss mock election.

Curriculum Map check:
SS performance assessment:  We discussed giving a "tree" performance assessment.  Laura will create this for us.

Review Norms

Agenda items:
-What is a PLC?  See handout.  Let's work as a team.
-Study guide reminder.  Let's make our geared more toward "what kids should know" instead of a copy of the test.
-Vocab list reminder:  vocabulary list tests.  Administer and review with children.  These are words used in our units.  Go over the vocabulary and then turn in to the office.
-Math assessment issue:
-Training tomorrow-roots of democracy assessment (pull 2/3 students' test if you want to offer suggestions)


Standards Based Report Card:
April Hardy visited us to speak to us about the SBRC.
Think/Talk about:  What is mastery?  How do you know when a student has mastered a standard?
We will no longer have progress skills checklists.
NE (not evaluated) will be used for areas not graded at a specific time.

Send April questions you may have about these report cards.
Action Item:  We need to determine What does mastery look like?  How do you know when a student mastered a standard?  What will we use?

Laura printed a kid friendly standards sheet and put it in your box.  You can put this in  your planning notebook.

If you need help on a specific area, talk to a teammate to get ideas.

We discussed the science habitat unit assessment.

Unit/Lesson Planning:
We will meet Thursday during planning to plan for unit 2 math-break apart Unit 2 math and group standards in order to make formative assessments to align with standards based report card.
Math-advanced classes need to give the Unit 2 preassessment THIS WEEK!
Next Tuesday, advanced people will look at data.

We do not need to do DRA on every student.
Ms. J is working on leveled library so we could pull books for our students levels.
